We decided to make gingerbread houses with our dear friend today. Since our kids are 5 and under we figured I'd construct them and the kids could decorate. I was a little nervous about baking construction worthy gingerbread so I opted for a kit. I wanted to have a nice base to build on so I cut two pieces of cardboard from the boxes that we have laying around.
I wrapped them up in shiny tissue paper, just like I'd wrap a gift.
Which gave me two nice shiny bases
Perfect to construct these on
So cute eh?
We set out the candies that came with the kit along with some extras and I'm happy to say that we all had a blast decorating. In case you are wondering what ours looked like in the end here you go.
Yes, there is a spoon in there and a partially eaten cookie. We took some artistic risks.
I will leave you with some other views of our holiday decor. Have a happy holiday evening.

So lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI love the colorful tablecloth! The pine cone wreath with the vase of stick thingies is cool too!
ReplyDeleteLove your dining room light decor - beautiful and festive! So, a degree in illustration, huh? Children's books or other kinds of drawing? My husband and I published a children's book last year and we looked far and wide for an illustrator. We did finally find someone to work with us, but it's always nice to have other options. :-) Merry Christmas!

Love that striped tablecloth! Your tree looks great, too. I've never made a gingerbread house, but seeing yours makes me want to! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you all!
ReplyDeleteJulia if you've got a Trader Joe's near you that is where we got the gingerbread kits and I'd highly recommend them. So easy and really fun!
Carrie I studied fashion and general illustration. That is wonderful that you published a children's book, what is it about? I'd be thrilled to help you if you need anything in addition to the illustrator you've found to work with! Feel free to email me!!
Happy Holidays everyone!
